A change in venue and date for the national road cycling championships.

The event will be held in Cambridge from next year, moving away from Hawke's Bay after four years.

The champs will be the new flagship event of the Ride New Zealand Cycling Festival.

In a significant move, the champs will be moved to mid-February from its traditional first weekend of January slot.

Top kiwi rider George Bennett says the move is a great step as preparing for a national championships so early in the year wasn't ideal.
