The Chiefs insist there's been no directives from above to start Sam Cane at blindside flanker against the Reds on Friday.
The All Blacks loosie will make his first start of the season with the number six on his back, while Lachlan Boshier returns on the openside.
Assistant coach Neil Barnes says it's no All Blacks message to see him at blindside.
He says they've had no correspondent down the line.
Fellow All Blacks Anton Lienert-Brown and Angus Ta'avao are on All Blacks rest weeks, replaced by Alex Nankivell and Nepo Laulala respectively.
