New Zealand believe they fought back to gain parity at the end of day one in the second cricket test against Sri Lanka in Christchurch.
Having been sent in to bat the Black Caps were bowled out for just 178, before taking four Sri Lankan wickets with the ball to leave the visitors at 88 for four at stumps.
Tim Southee, who scored 68 with the bat, led the New Zealand bowlers with figures of 29 for three.
He says they want to make the most of the pitch while it still provides some swing.
Southee says they would have liked to take one more wicket, but that makes the first hour today more important.
