All Blacks sevens coach Clark Laidlaw's excited to see what Niko Jones can do in his environment.
Jones, son of All Blacks great Sir Michael, has signed with the national squad for next season.
Laidlaw told Jason Pine they had some good discussions with the family.
"Where we see potentially Simmons playing part of his development as a young player, and that transition from being a good schoolboy through to becoming a good man player rather than just a boy."
Jones captained the St Peters College first XV to the national title this year.
Under-20's player Scott Gregory has also signed, as have 2018 breakthrough players Akuila Rokolisoa and Ngarohi McGarvey-Black.
