The Black Caps have been dismissed for 268 in their first innings, on day one of the second test against South Africa in Wellington.

A typical swashbuckling innings from Tim Southee lifted the Black Caps to a near-par total finishing on 27, thanks to two fours and two sixes.

Neil Wagner was the final New Zealander to return to Basin Reserve's pavillion, trapped LBW by JP Duminy, with Jeetan Patel on 17 not out.

Earlier Henry Nicholls hit his maiden test match century, before faltering on 118.
