New Zealand football will collectively be breathing a sigh of relief this morning.

All Whites star Chris Wood's hamstring strain isn't as serious as first thought ahead of the national side's intercontinental World Cup play-off against Peru.

Wood tweaked his hamstring playing for Burnley last weekend and is rated 50/50 for Tuesday's Premier League match against Newcastle.

Burnley Express football writer Chris Boden says Burnley won't take any risks.

"He won't take a chance just to get him on the bench even.

"There's a saying in Burnley: You can be fit, and then there's 'Dyche fit' - and if you're not 'Dyche fit' you won't feature.

"Sean Dyche will have him right at this end first to play. I think that bit of extra time, I think he will be right for Peru."
