A fantastic second round has seen Lydia Ko race up the leaderboard at the women's third golf major of the year.

The 21-year-old Kiwi had the round of the day so far with a six-under 66 to move from 86th into the top 10 at the PGA Championship in Illinois.

Ko made seven birdies over the first 13 holes, and then added one more at the par 3 17th from off the fringe to get to four-under for the tournament to sit at a tie for sixth.

"I wasn't putting great yesterday so it was nice to birdie one and feel like I can make a birdie around here," said Ko.

"I had a bit of confidence coming into this week because of the two top 10s. Confidence is a huge thing for me. When I have confidence, I'm able to execute a little better."

Meanwhile, Ryu So-yeon finished strong to move into a share of the lead at six-under along with Park Sung-hyun and Brooke Henderson.
