Tim Wilkinson has revealed he pulled out of Olympics contention earlier this year.
The Kiwi golfer's 11th placed finish at the Wells Fargo Championship lifted his world ranking by 200 places.
That ranking makes him the fourth alternate for the Rio team, despite being one of only two New Zealand golfers that has a PGA Tour card.
Wilkinson withdrew from the Olympics selection mix in January to focus on family and the Tour.
He said week in and week out they play stronger fields on the PGA Tour and he holds similar views to that of Adam Scott, Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen who have withdrawn too.
Danny Lee and European-based golfer Ryan Fox will tee it up in Rio as it stands.
