New Zealand's world champion track cycling sprint team are embracing the benefits of change.

Ethan Mitchell, Eddie Dawkins and Sam Webster have claimed gold at the Oceania Championships in Cambridge.

The trio changed their lead out order in their first round victory, with Webster first, before reverting to their regular positions for the final.

After spending months apart doing their own thing around the world, Mitchell says it's encouraging to see that change is working.

"It's promising for what we could do leading into next year and ultimatley our goal is gold in Tokyo 2020. We'll be trying new things, and encouraged to try new things, and hopefully we can step up again."

Today’s elite action includes the individual pursuit, women’s keirin, men’s time trial and scratch race.
