Northern Stars mid-courter Kayla Cullen has taken a long-term approach to her rehabilitation.
The Silver Ferns mid-courter has undergone an invasive surgery on her right knee having been sidelined since March and forced to miss the Commonwealth Games.
It's expected she will likely miss the entirety of the campaign, but Stars coach Kiri Wills says the decision they've made is best for Cullen's playing future - and she's taken it well.
"What they've done will prepare her for a longer career rather than a short-term turnaround so I guess in that respect for Kayla it's better.
"She's actually taken it really well, I think it's quite frustrating being a player of her calibre and not getting the court time."
