The New Zealand women’s kayaking four has emerged as a contender for a medal at the Rio Olympics.

Paddling in Lisa Carrington’s rather immense shadow, Jaimee Lovett, Kayla Imrie, Aimee Fisher and Caitlin Ryan have quietly collected a couple of world cup medals in the K4 500.

Now they’re through to the Olympic final after winning their semi-final at Lagoa.

Reigning world champions Belarus and London gold medallists Hungary are the two crews to beat after qualifying directly from their heats, but the Kiwi quartet may just be able to threaten for the final spot on the podium.
