Christchurch teenager William Stedman has won New Zealand's 21st medal of the Rio Paralympics.

The 16-year-old has claimed bronze in the men's 800 metre T36 on the penultimate day of competition, adding to the bronze he secured in the 400 metre event.

The 21 medal haul is New Zealand's second biggest at a Paralympics and three beyond the medal target.

The Kiwi team is 12th on the medal table with nine gold, five silver and now seven bronze.
