The women’s pair has brushed aside a postponement and double duty to produce the New Zealand rowing team’s best performance on day three of the Rio Olympics.

Genevieve Behrent and Rebecca Scown have comfortably won their rescheduled heat to advance to the semi-finals, hours after racing in the women’s eight.

Scown said yesterday’s cancellation didn’t bother them.

She said coach Dave Thompson puts them under pressure in training with different scenarios all the time and this was just another one of those.

The women’s and men’s eights will race repechages for a place in the final after failing to win their heats.

Julia Edward and Sophie MacKenzie are safely through to the semi-finals of the women’s lightweight double, while the men’s quad has failed to make the final after finishing last in its repechage.
