Sam Bewley's bounced back strongly from an injury-ravaged start to his professional road cycling career.

After a string of injuries through the first half of 2014, he felt his likelihood of a contract renewal with Orica GreenEDGE was unlikely.

But a pleasing performance at the Tour of Spain saw the Australian team re-sign the Rotorua former track cyclist.

Now home to prepare for this weekend's Road Nationals in Christchurch, Bewley says it's been a challenging time.

"My latest one is April was the end of a long string of injuries and at that point I was starting to get pretty frustrated and had a few emotions, so you just have to get back up on the horse and do the rehab correctly and focus on getting back on the bike."

The Road Nationals are being held in Christchurch for the final time this weekend.
