Triathlon New Zealand will continue to support Kate McIlroy, despite dropping the London Olympian from its high performance squad.
The 33-year-old's been omitted after a couple of injury-plagued seasons and a disappointing 12th place finish at this year's Commonwealth Games.
Tri NZ high performance director Graeme Maw says they'll help McIlroy with her rehab and running training as she's still motivated to continue through to Rio.
"It's a tough athlete that can keep that motivation during the ups and downs that she's had in the last couple of years.
"We're pretty supportive of that motivation, but there's some ground to be demonstrated yet to see whether that can be achieved."
Tony Dodds has been promoted to the elite squad, alongside Andrea Hewitt, Nicky Samuels and Ryan Sissons.
Five triathletes have been named to a development squad.
