Dominic Bird is tempering his excitement after receiving an All Blacks re-call.

The Canterbury and Chiefs lock will link up with the Barbarians to play against the All Blacks in Twickenham next weekend, before joining the national squad for the remainder of their end of year tour.

Bird's last All Blacks game was against Scotland in 2014.

But he is not allowing himself to look beyond this weekend's Mitre 10 Cup Premiership final against Tasman.

"The key thing at the moment is I'm just excited about playing Tasman in the fnal here at home. Like they always say, first jobs first."
