The New Zealand Schools Rugby Union has commissioned an independent investigation into matters raised by the recent eligibility issue involving Rotorua Boys' High School.
Peter Dale, the former head of the Lotteries Commission, will undertake a review of the policies and processes governing school boy eligibility, in the wake of a breach of the rules in a national first 15 playoff match last month.
Two ineligible players were included in the Rotorua Boys' team to play New Plymouth Boys' High School in the Top 4 competition.
Rotorua were allowed to continue in the competition after it was deemed the school made a genuine mistake and it's first 15 went on to win the national title.
The investigation will make recommendations as to how to avoid this happening again, including potential changes to the eligibility rules.
