Updated 7:14pm: Two injury enforced changes are the only tinkering coach Steve Hansen's done to the All Blacks side to face the Springboks in Johannesburg.

Lock Brodie Retallick has been ruled out due to ongoing concussion symptoms, while cuts around prop Wyatt Crockett's eye means he's also been scratched.

They've been replaced by Jeremy Thrush and Joe Moody, who'll make his first start test.

There's no changes to the backline, with Malakai Fekitoa retaining the 12 jersey from Ryan Crotty, who slides in on the bench.

Hansen says the decision to exclude Brodie Retallick was an easy one.

"Initially we thought he might be alright but he just hasn't cleared up so once we were in 50/50 land from 60/40 land we just said, 'no we won't bother'.

"No point risking him when there's a few more tests to play."

Mealamu's earns another start

All Blacks hooker Keven Mealamu’s performance in La Plata has earned him another start in Johannesburg.

Despite Dane Coles re-joining the squad, Mealamu will run out against the Springboks with Coles on the bench.

Coach Steve Hansen says Mealamu’s warranted another go.

He says Mealamu played well against the Pumas and deserves another start.
