A red-hot Cypriot sailor stands between Kiwi Sam Meech and the overall lead after the second day of the Laser world championship in Split, Croatia.

Meech was second in his fleet race on Friday to improve from third to second on seven net points.

That result, which followed a first and a fourth on day one, leaves the Rio Olympic bronze medalist trailing Pavlos Kontides by four points.

Kontides has won all three of his races, in a separate fleet to Meech.

Elsewhere, Kiwi Thomas Saunders improved two spots to 16th while Andrew McKenzie (44th) and George Gautrey (68th) are also in the 147-strong championship.
